Tournament Finalists Breakdown
Congratulations to the Rookie Ball OBA team for becoming finalists this past weekend, (June 23, 24, and 25th).
Our Team played very well this weekend and had a great bonding and learning experience. We ended up playing 5 games this weekend and there tank was empty by the end of the 5th game. They gave it there all.
On Friday we started off with the Alymer Pirates. After 3 innings it was a very close game. In the fourth our bats came to life. With everyone in our line up contributing offensively and getting on base. It was Tyler Book and Calvin Clements with a couple big bombs (these two were flexing there muscles the entire tournament) to bring everyone home that helped us take down the Pirates. Stellar play at first base by Hunter Mitchell kept our D in check as well as hitting effortlessly. Game ended in a 21-9 win.
On Saturday we started off with the East Mountain Cobra's. Our entire team played very even through the whole game. Speedster Nathan Leyton kept the line going by base hitting and running the bases like a pro. Ethan Timmers hit a couple of doubles also contributing with lights out speed. Ryan Borks base hitting as well as his glove kept the Cobra's bats in check playing a busy second base. Game ended in a 20 - 5 win.
Later that day after we all went to the campsite for Pizza we played a hungry South West London Scorpions team. With thunderstorms lingering and some on and off rain we managed to get the game in. London caught us a good time and we ended up giving up the game in a 16 - 12 loss.
The 2 wins and 1 loss managed to get us a first place seeding in our division and gave us a bye to Sunday's Semi final match against the Corunna Giants. The Giants are our home league rivals. We have played them twice this year before, losing both very close games. Our team wanted this match up and we got it. The game was very close through out the entire match, we also had a delay due to lighting. Cooper Aarts who was feeling ill before the game toughed it out for his teammates by hitting very strong and putting in a stellar infield performance as well as Jared Migchels with some hard throws from third, hitting doubles and triples to keep the runs coming on the score board as well as Gueryn Mitchell also swinging one angry bat covered up first base from the outfield beautifully in giving us a semi final win. The Game ended in a 13-10 win. (Big Win)
The finals were soon after our Corunna game and we ended up playing the Tillsonburg giants. The first MAJOR team of the tournament. We were close in the Top of the 5th inning having the score at 11 to 9 for Tillsonburg, despite Olivia Mintens relentless attacks with her hitting, and quarterbacking our defense at the pitcher spot as well as our Shortstop Sam Hayter knocking balls down and hitting very consistently, we fell to the Tillsonburg Giants.
