The Alvinston Riverhawks Pee Wee boys hosted the Dresden Tigers on a beautiful night for baseball in Alvinston. Peyton Mahovlich and Jack Denkers teamed up to take care of the pitching duties for the Hawks.
Despite a slow start for Alvinston, the boys were able to hang around and kept the Tigers in their sights. When Dresden's starting pitcher was lifted from the game, the Riverhawks' bats came to life. Trailing 8-5, the Hawks rallied for 6 runs in their last bat to take an 11-8 lead. The Tigers answered with 2 runs in the final inning to bring the score to 11-10 but the Riverhawks hung on for the win.
Game highlights included Ty Moffatt clubbing a triple, Carson Cumming with an RBI Double, Brandon Faulds with some great defense on third base, Jack Denkers catching the Dresden pitcher napping to steal home and steady defence including some big picks out of the dirt on first base by Connor Cumming. Denkers was also on cruise control as he came on in relief of Mahovlich to close out the game.
It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win!
The Riverhawks will be back in action on Monday June 19th at 6:15 as they travel to Camlachie to take on the Cougars!
