Dear Alvinston Riverhawks Families,
On the evening of Wednesday, May 27, members of the Alvinston Minor Ball executive met to discuss the 2020 season. Recently, several newsworthy announcements in the baseball world have come forward, such as the cancellation of the Lambton League season (for Girls Fastball Teams), the likely cancellation of the Four Counties League season (for Boys Fastball season), and ORSA cancelled their season in late April (effecting fastball teams looking for further competition).
Baseball Ontario is currently accepting the date of, “through June 15” for their suspension of all in-person baseball programs.
In a unanimous decision, it was decided to cancel the 2020 season at least for now, and return any monies to those who registered in Alvinston Minor Ball so far this season. At a later date, Alvinston Minor Ball reserves the right to create a shortened season, if possible, with a new registration payment structure that is fair for all families and registrants. Also, a come as you are “once a week baseball model,” could be developed for later in the summer, for kids to show up to have a fun game with kids in their age group, as we strive to come back stronger as an association, in 2021. More details will come regarding this possibility at a later date, as COVID-19 remains a very fluid state, ever-changing from week-to-week and day-to-day. Alvinston Minor Ball remains committed to provide competitive teams in both baseball and fastball in our immediate region, and the hope is that COVID-19 will disappear, and we will open our online registration for the 2021 season in early November of 2020. We anticipate the 2021 season, and want all kids to be able to play sports and be active in their communities once again, as they were in the past.
Lastly, if you registered for Alvinston Minor Ball through our online registration, you will be receiving a refund from PayPal via Alvinston Minor Ball in the coming days. If you paid cash or cheque at our first in-person registration, you can private message our facebook page, to set-up a time for the cash or cheque to be returned to you. With the case of a cheque, we can shred your cheque with permission from the specific family. Any further questions, you can private message us on our facebook page, and we will gladly assist you.
